Mikiki hears and sees what is around you, so what the microphone hears and what the camera sees are sent to an AI service, OpenAI, to be understood and answered. That includes the voices of the people near you. Mikiki has no account and no sign-in. It keeps no recordings, shows no ads, runs no analytics, does not track you, and contains no third-party SDKs. The first time, the app explains this and waits for you to agree.
The microphone
- The microphone is open only while HEAR is on, or while you hold the talk button. iOS shows its orange dot whenever it is open.
- While it is open, its sound is streamed from your iPhone straight to OpenAI, which turns speech into text and writes Mikiki's answer. With HEAR on, that includes anyone speaking near you, not just you. In TRANS, it is you and the person you are talking with.
- Neither the app nor our server keeps the sound. Mikiki's spoken answers are read by the iPhone's own speech voice, on the phone; only when no voice for your language is on the iPhone does OpenAI speak them.
The camera and your photos
- While LOOK is on, a still picture from the camera is sent to OpenAI about every ten seconds, so Mikiki can read signs and tell you what changed, and the current picture goes along with what you say to Mikiki.
- A photo you take with the shutter, or pick from your library, is sent as soon as you take or pick it, so Mikiki can tell you about it.
- Pictures are not saved to your library and are not kept by our server. The app only reads the photo you pick; it does not browse your library.
What you type
Text you type to Mikiki is sent to OpenAI to be answered, together with the recent lines of the conversation so the answer makes sense.
OpenAI
- Sound, pictures and text go from your iPhone to OpenAI directly, over an encrypted connection, using a short-lived key our server gets for each session. They do not pass through our server.
- OpenAI receives nothing that names you: no account, no Apple ID, no email address, no phone number.
- Under OpenAI's API terms, it does not use this data to train its models, and keeps it for up to 30 days to monitor abuse. See OpenAI's privacy policy.
What our server keeps
- Our server starts each session: it receives the language you speak, the quality setting and, in TRANS, the other person's language, and asks OpenAI for the session key.
- So that only the real app can start sessions, Mikiki uses Apple's App Attest. The first time, your iPhone makes a key that never leaves the phone's secure hardware, and Apple confirms it belongs to Mikiki. Our server keeps that key's ID and its public half, a counter, when it was first seen, and how many sessions it started today. It does not know which iPhone or which person it belongs to. Deleting the app makes a new key next time.
- For the daily limits it also keeps a count of sessions and new devices for each day.
- Our server logs record each session's language, quality setting and whether it was allowed, without the key ID. Google Cloud also keeps standard request logs, which include IP addresses, for 30 days.
Where it is processed, and by whom
- Our server runs on Google Cloud in Tokyo, Japan (region asia-northeast1), and keeps the records above there. Everything travels over HTTPS.
- Three service providers process data for us, each only to provide its service: Google Cloud (our server and its records), OpenAI (hearing, reading and answering, in the United States) and Apple (App Attest).
- We do not sell your data or share it with anyone else.
On your phone
- Your settings: the language you speak, the other person's language for TRANS, quality, whether TALK is on, and that you agreed to the listening notice. And the ID of the App Attest key.
- The conversation and its photos are held only while the session is open, and are gone when you end it.
- Deleting the app removes all of it from the phone.
What Mikiki does not collect
- No account, name, email address or phone number.
- No advertising, analytics or tracking, and no advertising identifier.
- No location and no contacts.
Permissions
Microphone, to hear; camera, for LOOK; and the photo you pick, when you choose one. You can turn the microphone and camera off for Mikiki at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security.
Children
Mikiki is meant for ages 13 and up.

Questions about this policy — write to support@dina.jp. Mikiki keeps nothing that ties a record to you, so we cannot look up or delete data for a particular person; deleting the app removes everything on the phone.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date.
